| 2008 Annual Fund Appeal - Donor Profiles
honor
"All we can do in the face of death is to reaffirm life. I wanted to do something positive to remember Brian and pay tribute to his service to our country." - Dr. Paul Slavenas When his cousin's helicopter was shot down in Fallujah, Iraq, Dr. J. Paul Slavenas groped for a way to build something positive from the tragedy. First Lieutenant Brian Slavenas was just 30 years old when he died five years ago - a 6-foot 5-inch "gentle giant" who served in the Illinois National Guard with a quiet, but passionate sense of duty.
As chairman of anesthesiology at Lake Forest Hospital, Dr. Slavenas sees the influence of donors' generosity every day. And so, sorrow moved the doctor to become a donor. At a very personal level, Dr. Slavenas' gift honors the memor of a beloved family member in a lasting way, while also supporting opportunities for others to live well.
